Halva

Ingredients

500 gm White Sesame Seeds
1 Pinch Cinnamon
1/8 tsp Powdered Nutmeg
1/8 tsp Powdered Cloves
1/8 tsp Powdered Cardamon
2 Cups Sugar
250 ml Water

Method

  1. Place the sesame seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cardamon in a food processor and pulse until the ingredients stick together.
  2. Heat the sugar and water over medium heat, stirring constantly, and simmer on slow heat for 10-12 minutes, until the syrup thickens.
  3. Add the syrup to the sesame seed paste and continue to pulse gently until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Place the halva in a shallow dish and smooth the top.
  5. When the mixture has cooled cut into 1-inch cubes.

Notes:

  • Halva is a Middle Eastern confection.
  • Makes about 750 gm halva.
  • Halva can also be set in a deeper dish and cut into slices when cooled.
  • It is also common to add nuts to the mixture before setting.
